Hi,

I saw your post about working for Wells Fargo and needing a furnished apartment. Wells Fargo in Des Moines has quite a few different buildings around Des Moines and the suburbs. What is the address of where you%26#39;ll be? My husband works for Wells Fargo Financial downtown, but previously worked in West Des Moines. If you are working downtown, you wouldn%26#39;t need a car, but would be more limited in the suburbs without one.

The downtown area is being rejuvenated and summer is a great time to be here. There should be a number of available rentals available.

Let me know if I can help you further,

Ginny

I hope that you enjoy your stay in Des Moines! As the previous poster mentioned, you may not need a car if you find an apartment in the downtown area.

I am not very familiar with the apartment rental market in Des Moines, but I noticed several downtown apartments listed for rent on Craig%26#39;s List http://desmoines.craigslist.org/apa/. If you are staying in a hotel downtown, you may also be able to negotiate to rent a room for a few months or the hotel staff may be able to help you find a rental agency that can help you. People are usually very friendly and willing to help a visitor, so please let the hotel staff and your work colleagues at Wells Fargo know if you need help.

As for transportation, there is a bus service in Des Moines. The downtown area is small enough that someone who likes to walk could get around that way, too. There are several nice grocery store/delis that have recently opened in and around downtown Des Moines, plus some restaurants.

Des Moines has a much, much smaller and much, much quieter downtown than in New York City, but there should be plenty to do there over the next two months. There is a wonderful Farmer%26#39;s Market every Saturday morning and we have a great art festival at the end of the month. And if you are here in August, visit the Iowa State Fair. It will give you a unique view of rural and small town America.

Best of luck to you!
