University Inn

Is this motel in a good area? There are two positive reviews, so I%26#39;m hoping it is.

University Inn

This may be a bit late for your purposes, but I%26#39;ll still respond.

University Inn is right on Duff Avenue and in a very commerical area of town with shopping (Target is across the street and the new Super Wal-mart is two blocks away), restaurants (our favorite Mexican place is right next door and Panera Bread is across the street) and many other services and stores within a mile in either direction.

This is a decent area of town and should present no problems for your stay.

Where to stay, dine and golf?

We are staying in Sioux City July 8th-10th and would like some advice on where to stay, dine and golf in the area? We probably will be able to play a private golf course using reciprocity from our course so private or public can be considered. Help? It is right around the corner!

Where to stay, dine and golf?

I haven%26#39;t spent a lot of time in Sioux City, so hopefully other posters will have more specific advice for you. However, this web site lists some of the restaurants and area attractions in Sioux City: http://www.siouxcitytourism.com/index.htm. I have been to Minerva%26#39;s and HuHot in other cities and both are worth a try. The Dakota Dunes golf course is one of the better known courses in that area.

I hope that you enjoy your trip!

Anniversary Dinner

Any ideas for aspecial anniversary dinner in CR?

Anniversary Dinner

Congratulations on your anniversary!

If you don%26#39;t mind a chain, Biaggi%26#39;s has good food and is a nice place to celebrate a special occasion.

Hotel Vetro

Is anybody out there? Doesn%26#39;t appear that the Iowa City forum is hoppin but I though I would try and ask a question anyway! Curious if anyone has stayed at the Hotel Vetro located a couple of blocks from the University of Iowa. The new Marriott is booked and I%26#39;m looking for nice accomodations to stay while moving our son into the University next month. Thanks!

Hotel Vetro

this is a test

Hotel Vetro

this is another test!

long after you asked, but yes, i have stayed there and it was a big surprise to me how hip and nice this place was....great rooms, minimalist, but cool....very nice vibe and a nice gym

Thanks umbrellagirl,

We did end up getting a room at the new Marriott at half the price of the Hotel Vetro. It%26#39;s a beautiful hotel!

I stayed at the Hotel Vetro last week when I was in town on business. The hotel is nice, however, the noise level at night was unbearable. The hotel is located along the town%26#39;s ped mall and all the students from the University go bar hopping every night of the week. Therefore, starting around 11:00 - 3:00PM expect to be wakened up by drunken students yelling and wooping it up.

I never did get a decent night%26#39;s sleep. I%26#39;ll never do it again.

  • Slip rental on East Lake

Does anyone know of a place who will rent boat slips on East lake for the weekend? Will be staying there this weekend?

    Bachelorette party

What are some things we can do in Davenport for a bachelorette party? Best places to go?

    Thanks!

    Bachelorette party

How many are you, and what are you looking for? Tea? Dinner? Bars? Male strippers?

    Bachelorette party

We are looking to have a good time. We only want strippers if its at a show or something. We dont want them to come to us. I don%26#39;t know how many girls yet. It could be 10, it could be 30.

I like all sorts of stuff so any suggestions are welcome.

my house in moline would be a good a spot. =) im assuming you have already had your party but the district in rock island is a good place, downtown moline has a few good, cheap bars. downtown davenport on 3rd street has a few bigger clubs in it. its alot younger crowd though, college students and such.

Update on Downtown Court Ave. Area?

I%26#39;m planning a return trip this summer to go to the IA State Fair and was wondering how bad the Court Ave. area was damaged in the recent June floods. Specifically, we%26#39;re interested in knowing how bad Buzzard Billy%26#39;s was damaged and are they open?

Update on Downtown Court Ave. Area?

The Farmer%26#39;s Market and some of the Court Ave. businesses reopened about 2 weeks ago. Last weekend, the only obvious signs of the June floods in that area were sandbags remaining around some of the buildings. Those should be gone by the time you%26#39;re here next month.

Unfortunately, Buzzard Billy%26#39;s received significant flood damage and it isn%26#39;t yet clear whether or not it will reopen. You will definitely want to have a contingency plan if you plan to go there.

    Travel safely!

Update on Downtown Court Ave. Area?

PrairieDog thanks for the response. That was our fear, given their close proximity to the river AND the fact that it was below street level in that building. We figured it had to be literally UNDER WATER to the ceiling :(

I imagine that you%26#39;ve already completed your trip to Des Moines. But for you or others wondering about the status of Buzzard Billy%26#39;s, there was a bit of good news this week: The Hessen Haus bar/restaurant in downtown Des Moines has added some of Buzzard Billy%26#39;s items to its lunch menu.

There%26#39;s no word on when Buzzard Billy%26#39;s may reopen.
