I have to travel to Iowa in 2 weeks time. I have to go to Conrad Iowa and I wondered if there are nice but not too expensive hotels anyone could please recommend, I guess Marshall Town will be the nearest place to look?

Marshalltown is probably your best bet for lodging near Conrad. There are several budget hotels in Marhsalltown (AmericInn, Comfort Inn, Days Inn), though I am not personally familiar with any of them.
Depending on how far your definition of budget stretches, the Tremont Inn on Main looks like a very nice place to stay if you can get a good rate: http://www.tremontonmain.com/.

Thanks for the reply. I did find the one you suggested also, I called but the rates were pretty high, $159 a night!
Not so good for us UK visitors at the moment.
I am not familiar with the Marshalltown motels either. My own tastes run to the Comfort Inn chain, http://www.choicehotels.com . Comfort Inns have indoor pools, free high speed internet, adequate breakfasts, and interior corridors. You should be able to book a room at about $90 (taxes included), less if you are over 50 and qualify for their mature rate.
AmericInn has similar amenities and prices. http://www.americinn.com
The Super 8 and Days Inn chains are basic, budget chains. I have had bad luck with Days Inn and am unable to find a Marshalltown room online. Super 8 quoted $67 with taxes for a hypothetical booking. http://www.super8.com
England to Conrad, Iowa - there must be an interesting story. Remember that motel prices will be quoted without sales tax and room tax. These taxes will add about 10%.
