Best place to stay in amana colonies

We are coming to the Amana Colonies this summer after staying in Chicago for 5 days... does anyone have a favorite B%26amp;B or lodging in the colonies? We aren%26#39;t really wanting a chain hotel -- trying to get the colony experience! We are looking at Village Guest Suites in Amana but I read about a new place: Zubers Guest House?

Any recommendations about lodging, dining and what to see in the colonies is much appreciated! Also -- any idea where to stop between Amana and Omaha for another night? Thanks!

As far as stopping between Amana and Omaha - unless you are leaving late in the day or REALLY want to spend the night, it really wouldn%26#39;t be necessary - the Amanas and Omaha are only about 5 hours apart.

Eating in main Amana is easy - whenever you are hungry, walk into the nearest restaurant and eat, they are all good!

I agree that the restaurants in Amana are all pretty good. The Colony Inn in Main Amana is one that has a very loyal following, as does Zuber%26#39;s in Homestead.

As for staying between Amana and Omaha, your best bet would be in the Des Moines area. And it%26#39;s perhaps 15 miles off of I 80, but it might be interesting to stop overnight and for a bit of sightseeing in Winterset, IA (about 20 miles southwest of Des Moines) in Madison Co., in the area where ';The Bridges of Madison Co.'; was set.

I have stayed at the Guest Haus Motor Inn in Amana many time and would highly recommend it. It is a locally owned hotel. They have 26 typical hotel rooms in %26#39;newer%26#39; building, and 12 rooms in the sandstone bldg. (used to be a residence years ago!) This hotel is super super clean, the staff friendly and it is right in the heart of Amana! You cannot go wrong for the price!

Highly recommend it.
