Des Moines location help?

I%26#39;m looking for an easy to find place to meet up with someone in Des Moines. Neither of us are familiar with the area. We are transporting dogs for a rescue -- they will be coming in on I-80 heading West into Des Moines and I will be coming down from 35 heading South into Des Moines. We just need somewhere easy to spot/find where we can park, transfer dogs from one car to another, then take off again and go our seperate ways. A parking lot or anything would work. Any suggestions?

I have several suggestions:

1. If your meeting will be outside of retail business hours, there%26#39;s a large car dealership on the south side of Ankeny called Karl Chevrolet that is very easy to find. It%26#39;s located on the SW corner of the Oralabor Rd. exit off I-35, just north of Des Moines.

2. In Altoona (just east of Des Moines along I-80) there is a casino/race track called Prairie Meadows which has a huge parking lot. You could try to meet in the NW corner of the lot. There also are some fast food places (McDonalds and Culvers) across the street from Prairie Meadows that would work, too.

Hi - if you haven%26#39;t left yet, I would suggest Exit #89 on I-35. There is an Iowa DOT building just off that exit. The other suggestion of Karl Chevrolet is at Exit 90 and a very, very busy intersection.

So the party coming in on I-80 would take I-35 North (to Minneapolis) and take the first exit - just a few miles. It is a fairly next exit so are not many businesses there, however there are 2 new buildings on the east side of the exit.

Prairie Meadows, at Exit 142 on I-80 has a large truck stop just off the exit - also a possibility. It would require you to take I-80 East once you arrive at the north side of DM and travel east on -80 to Exit 142 approximately 5 miles.
