November Anniversary

My husband %26amp; I are traveling to Iowa for our 7th wedding anniversary November 9-13. We are flying into Cedar Rapids and are spending a couple of nights at the Hotel Winneshiek in Decorah. Does anybody have any recommendations for things we shouldn%26#39;t miss while we%26#39;re in Iowa at that time of year? Thanks in advance!

November Anniversary

You%26#39;ll be a bit late for the fall color, which is beautiful in the hills around Decorah. And you%26#39;ll miss out on the gardens, but the Seed Savers Exchange in Decorah may be worth a stop if you have an interest in gardening or biodiversity. More information is available at http://www.seedsavers.org/default.asp.

If you like history, check out the Laura Ingalls Wilder house in Burr Oak, IA or the Norwegian Museum in Decorah:

Thank you so much, Prairiedog! Our returning flight leaves CR at 6 am, so we need to stay somewhere relatively near the airport the night before. Do you have any recommendations?

There are a number of hotels within a few miles of the airport. Most are off of I-380 and 33rd Ave SW and are budget type hotels: Country Inn, Comfort Inn and Heartland Inn. There%26#39;s also a Clarion in that area. If you want something a little more upscale, the Marriott and Crowne Plaza hotels are popular. They both are within 15 - 20 mins. of the airport. I haven%26#39;t stayed in any of them recently to provide a personal recommendation, so you may want to check the TripAdvisor reviews.

Enjoy your trip and travel safely!

I would recommend you check out Brucemore home of the

person who founded Quaker Oats here in Cedar Rapids where

I live. It just changed directors so I would see it before we know

what changes the director has in store. I do not hear much

about the hotels in the area but we do have a lot of problems

with our restaurants in Cedar Rapids and some in Iowa, so if it does not look clean when you walk in, I personally would go somewhere else. Also, you can check our resturant inspections

in Iowa on-line. Good luck.
