Feb 18-19 Hotels by Jordan Creek

Which suite hotel by Jordan Creek would someone recommend? What are things we should not miss in the Des Moines area? Thanks.

The Marriott is right next door to Jordan Creek there will be another hotel soon which is currently under construction.

There is a brand new Residence Inn on the property of Jordan Creek Mall. It just opened fall of last year.

There is also a Springhill Suites about six blocks up the street from the mall. It is a conversion from a Quality Suites.

The Country Inn %26amp; Suites by Carlson is only 3 miles away on University Ave, off of I-80 %26amp; I-35. It has large one bedroom king suites with separate connected living rooms that also have sofa beds. If you are travelling with kids, it is close to Jordan Creek and Living History Farms and just 15 minutes from the new Science Center of Iowa with Imax and the Blank Park Zoo. The Iowa Hall of Pride interactive museum is also just 15 minutes away. Has an AWESOME breakfast and the largest pool and hot tub in the area!!

The new hotel, is the Holiday Inn and Suites. It will open in April. It is supposedly going to be amazing. Upscale!!! They are currently taking reservations for meeting space and rooms.

We%26#39;ve stayed at the Residence Inn. It is literally ';in the parking lot'; of Jordan Creek. Nice area, continental breakfast. Our room was a suite, not sure they all are......

Very convienent to shopping %26amp; dining.

What not to miss in Des Moines depends a lot on what you like to do. Some of the previous posters have provided good recommendations on attractions and hotels, but I%26#39;ll add the Des Moines Botanical Center. It%26#39;s so nice to see greenery and flowers there this time of year. Also, since you%26#39;ll be here during the week you may want to tour the state capitol or Terrace Hill (the governors mansion) if you have any interest in politics or state history.

There is a lot of interesting architecture in Des Moines. The art museum is worth a visit if that%26#39;s an interest for you. If you like to look at beautiful old houses, the ';south of Grand'; Ave. area on the west side of the city has some nice neighborhoods to drive through.

If shopping is your passion, Jordan Creek is great. West Glen Shopping Center is a mile or two east of Jordan Creek and has some interesting boutiques and restaurants. Valley Junction in West Des Moines and the East Village (in downtown Des Moines) have eclectic shopping and antiques. The other larger malls (Valley West, Merle Hay and Southridge) are all O.K., but really are a lot like your malls in Cedar Rapids.

Enjoy your visit!
