Recommendations for eating on I-35

Hello,

We will be driving from Minneapolis to Des Moines on I-35. Can anyone recommend stops for getting something to eat on the Iowa side of things?

Thanks!

I know that you specified Iowa, but there are several notable restaurants near the outlet malls at Medford, MN, which is only about an hour%26#39;s drive from the Iowa border. One unusual choice is the restaurant in Cabela%26#39;s outdoor shop, which sells some exotic meat sandwiches (such as buffalo) in addition to soups, salads and the usual. There also are Green Mill restaurants near Owatonna and in Albert Lea, MN.

In Iowa, there is a buffet and also a restaurant in the Diamond Jo Casino near Northwood, IA. If you just want a quick salad or sandwich, Culver%26#39;s in Clear Lake is just off the interstate. South of Clear Lake, choices will be limited until you reach Ames or Ankeny, IA. In Ames, there are many restaurants along Duff Ave. near Hwy 30. One very popular one is Hickory Park. Ankeny and anywhere in the Des Moines metro area will offer a variety of choices. If you like Mexican food, there is a good, reasonably priced family restaurant called Mi Mexico just off of the University Ave. exit in Clive (a western suburb of Des Moines).

Have safe travels and enjoy your trip!

If you can wait until your 40 miles from Des Moines stop in Ames at Hickory Park. It%26#39;s the absolute best.

And . . . if you want to wait til you get all the way to Des Moines - stop at the Machine Shed - - a fun place with yummy food - especially their giant cinnamon rolls for breakfast! :-)

Great stuff! Thanks a lot everyone :)

Hickory Park in Ames and the Machine Shed are wonderful restaurants. Excellent ';Iowa'; Food. Mi Mexico is also my favorite restaurant in Des Moines.

There used to be a decent truck stop at Williams, Iowa (exit 143?) called Boondocks. I haven%26#39;t eaten there in a few years.
