Report on quick visit

We just spent 2 days in Des Moines and thought I would share what we found. Not sure really where to start, but we loved everything! We stayed at the Embassy Suites on the river. The atrium part of the hotel was beautiful. Our room was fine, pretty standard, but comfortable. The staff were exceptionally helpful.

Spent an afternoon wandering the east village and heading up to the capitol. What a beautiful building it is! Dinner was at Django, which is a French restaurant located in the historic Hotel Fort Des Moines. We have been to France a couple times and loved this place!

Morning coffee was back in the east village at the Vanilla Bean. Very good as well.

Spent the rest of the day visiting Drake University. Very impressive and as usual, everyone was very friendly and helpful.

The only negative, if you will, on this trip was the drive from Omaha. The drive itself is not bad, but I wasn%26#39;t sure the little rental car could do 85 to keep up with traffic in the slow lane, but somehow it did, lol! I was nervous when a tour bus wanted me to go faster though;)

We had never been to Des Moines before, but we ended up loving it! The entire area from the east village over to the main business area was so interesting with a great mix of architecture. We enjoyed checking out the beautiful old buildings like city hall, the library, a church, and of course the capitol.

Very glad to see this! I remember messages you sent me earlier this year about Des Moines. So glad to hear you had a good visit! If you choose Drake and visit again you%26#39;ll find even more to explore.

Thanks for reporting back!

xena--Thanks:) So far, Drake is dd%26#39;s #1 choice. She kept saying how much she liked the town, and that is not a normal comment from her. I told her that if nothing else, at least we were able to see an area we had not been to before and that is always fun, IMO. We are enjoying Omaha right now. Todays weather was really nice!

Mtngrl,

We are new Drake parents this year. Our daughter is enjoying Drake, but having a little adjustment right now. All in all I have been very pleased with the school. They seem to really carefully think about the needs of students AND parents when planning anything. It is so nice to know that there is so much thought going into all they do.

We have enjoyed Des Moines too. We%26#39;ll be going back at the end of the month. Our daughter has her car there, and is not necessarily a good navigator. But she has found the city much more manageable than St Louis, where we are from.

Good luck to you and your daughter!

Deb--Thank you for sharing all that:) We brought a nav system with us but didn%26#39;t need it at all. It was so easy to zip around!
